Day Break

Day Break is a perfect example of a show with an awesome premise, but merely competent execution. Day Break involves a time loop similar to Groundhog Day. Â But where Phil merely had to find new ways to entertain himself on February 2, Detective Brett Hopper is reliving a day where he's being framed for murder and his friends and family are being threatened to force him to comply. Â On top of that, he is not physically reset every day. Â So while he wakes up in the same bed, he retains the injuries from the day before. Â No get out of death free card for Brett. It's just... compared to shows I say unequivocally I like, I just wasn't feeling the characters. Â I just kept having the feeling that if five groups of writers were working on different versions of this premise, there'd be some I'd end up liking a lot more than this. Â But being an extremely rare premise, if you're interested at all this is pretty much all you've got. It wasn't a popular show on its original airing, and was cancelled even before all the produced episodes aired. Â However, unlike many cancellations it doesn't leave with a ton of unanswered questions or on a cliffhanger. Â They must've realized this premise wasn't one that could just go on indefinitely, so its 13 episodes wrap things up quite well, with only a few strings intentionally left loose. 3/5
