New page

[http://idontknowifyouknowthis.phile.com/page/20798/Flash_Gordon_Blu_ray Originally posted at IDKIYKT's Phile on 2011-06-15]

Hadn't seen this movie in forever. Now I appreciate it as not just a hokey movie, but one that's hokey as a throwback to the decades of history of this character. Ridiculous costumes from the 1930s, now with the extravagant production of big budget 1980. Obviously composited background shots that look nothing like space or real environments, but instead the far-out look of 1950s sci-fantasy taken up an order of magnitude. Characters that are pretty one-note, but performed with gusto. And though it doesn't fit the retro pattern, Queen does fit in really well with fantastical sci-fi action.

4/5
