So at the end we see the Queen is not entirely dead. Or at least, is sprouting the next generation. So that answers my question about whether the future seasons would continue on with this threat or have to keep introducing even more bizarre things. Also presumably the future seasons are all fitting in between main series seasons 2 and 3, which doesn't leave a lot of room. The epilogue scene here is 3 weeks later, putting it in early February. And given Dustin's time away at camp, they've probably only got until late May to play with.}}
