In Which Josh Says Things
Ken Lobb leaves Nintendo for Microsoft. Dude. Dream last night: Looked at stuff at store, considered stealing demo GBA that didn't seem to be connected to anything. However, I worried about the store having inserted something in it that they could detect upon my exit to catch folks; the loose GBA being their version of a speed trap. Tonight I began something I've been wanting to do for a while: examinate GCN save file infos. I've been a whore about the amount of space actual games take up for quite some time, but a few GCN games have had people wondering. Like, SSBM using 11 blocks, many more than its predecessor (though it does save much more too). Or Rogue Leader taking 3 blocks, though it doesn't seem to have anything too complex to save. With GCN basic memory cards holding far less data than PS2 counterparts, efficiency is even more important. So tonight I grabbed the games and a notepad, and wrote down everything I could see that a save file would need. I then attempted translating my Rogue necessities into bits and bytes, and came to the number of 57 bytes for needed data. And sure, I probably missed stuff, and they oft do things to saves to make them harder to tamper, and other miscellany stuff like that. But 3 blocks should be about 24 kilobytes. That's the kind of unaccounted-for use that would make the military blush. I'll work on bitifying SSBM stuff tomorrow. Chad tells me he finished up watching my Awful Truth season 2 DVDs, and he enjoyed them enough that he tonight placed an order for the first season, which I don't think I've seen any of. Rockin'. On the subject of Michael Moore, sounds like his latest book Stupid White Men is a pretty big success so far. Zagnut = good. My coconut-phobic mom treats them as Kryptonite, though. I couldn't even tell there WAS coconut until it was pointed out. Even after knowing, I had to try to notice it much. One can slightly tell by texture on outside, and a few times I think I noticed it as an aftertaste in my breath seconds after eating it. Nothing to get frightened over. Tomorrow on MST3K: Future War. You know, where Cheap Clone Van Damme and a nun fight dinosaurs and cyborgs with the help of gangs? Gah. Does anyone know of a good way to avoid the ICQ spam that's come about in the past few months, preferably without blocking legitimate messages?
