Some people get completely bent out of shape over midichlorians in the Star Wars prequels, and I just don't get it.  They're not a big deal.

"Oh no!  What was a mysterious Force is now explained to be microorganisms!" goes the main whine.  No it isn't.  The Force is still the Force; the midichlorians are just a go-between.  As long as there's supposed to be some genetic component to Force capability (as the Skywalker family would indicate), is it unreasonable that there is some non-mystical method to measure this?  We know the Jedi look for Force-sensitive youngsters; either they were going to need to develop a test or have a large portion of the Order be permanently assigned to go around administering compulsory "feelings" of babies.

Look, people in the real world can be strong.  Some people might even have a higher potential limit on their strength based on familial factors.  But if I come in and mention muscle fibers, who is going to be the one to flip out and say "FIBERS!  This guy was especially strong, but now I'm just supposed to believe he's got cords doing all the work!?"  Come on, that's batshit.

The Force is the Force.  Skywalkers are still special.  To say midichlorians explain away the Force is to say that tongues explain away singing or fingers explain away writing.
