I know almost nothing about Toshio Iwawaki, but he's one of the first people behind the scenes in gaming that I paid attention to. Beating Super Mario World and watching its credits is my earliest memory of paying attention to game credits. He was credited as Mario & System Programmer, which to my 9-ish year old self made him seem like the guy responsible not only for Mario the character, but the SNES too. He continues to show up in EAD credits.
