Oh no!, the beat's all busted up, like the GIA

Wow. The GIA is shutting down. Of course, at first I took it to be an April Fool's joke. But given the serious nature of it, and the fact that statements like "But we've grown increasingly unsure that the GIA is the best way to make a difference, and as long as the GIA is around to consume our time, we'll never have a chance to find out otherwise." aren't easily washed away with a "Haha, April Fool's!", I believe now. Luckily, it seems many of the people still want to go on, and will be starting up regular coverage shortly at Gameforms, including a moveover of much content. So much like Planet GameCube is to sites such as OPN2000, 64 Source, and N64HQ, Gameforms will be to GIA and early RPGamer/Square Net. Not to berate the founders of such early sites as I've mentioned above, but several times now I've seen sites shut down because the founders have decided to move on, and even though there are plenty of people willing to go on (and who usually do with other sites), they decide to shut down "while the site is still great"; this has always struck me as a thinly veiled insult to the newer folk. On the other side of the coin, forcing them into making a new site could be a boon, allowing them more freedom from pre-existing site tradition and convention. Evolution. <nowiki>*thinks back*</nowiki> The earliest thing I can remember about GIA was actually before knowing of the site directly. I used to talk on ICQ to Ed McGlothlin (who's at various times worked on both of the chains of sites mentioned above) quite a bit. He pointed out the mass resignations going on, and sensed something was up. For time reference, when he asked if I'd seen RPGamer, I thought he was referring to his newly uploaded Parasite Eve review there. Heh. This works amazingly well with my earlier comment. Out-of-the-blue ICQ message from Toaster Thief: "April Fool's!" ---Now Loading---Please Wait--- It is by lucky chance that I was clued in to the fact that school doesn't actually resume tomorrow, but the second. That would've been quite the mistake. My tongue enjoys partying with the roasted flesh of dead porcines. Current Mood needs about a thousand more adjectives. I find it somewhat humorous when I think about how the icon I use for slightly more serious posts is the quickly made sketch of me made by a PS2-loving wrestling freak relative-by-marriage. Few dead rats could have appeared worse to him than me playing Jet Grind, and allowing his stepkids to play a non-PlayStation branded system. SSBM doing of day: Peach Classic Hard, and various other things. My skills have been atrophying, bad. Current Mood: indescribable Current Music: MC Frontalot - Rewind Original
