101A & 101B: Children of the Gods 1997 July 27
(First watched 2004-08-??) This episode really fulfills its purpose well, which is to explain how we go from what seems like the limited setup of the Stargate movie to what will be a weekly series. The small bit of full nudity is odd, and not repeated throughout the series.

A great followup to show how insidious an enemy the Goa'uld really are.

103: Emancipation 1997 August 8
This is a real stinker. After the earlier episodes set up the premise, this was the first "planet of the week" episode, so it scared me that this was the first indication of what quality they might be. For a military officer, Sam whines to her superior a bit much. I know the situation isn't so great for you, Sam, but you'll live. Luckily, if you make it past this episode there's nowhere to go but up!

104: The Broca Divide 1997 August 15
I believe this is the first instance of a main cast member playing an alternate or altered version of themselves, though O'Neill seems to get the most of it. The first time they bring through a potentially disastrous disease through the gate.

105: The First Commandment 1997 August 22
I'm not big on this episode. The premise is that one of the SG teams went a bit nuts. The leader in particular, though he got part of his group to go along with him. They've taken on a role as gods and are overworking the local population. While I do enjoy seeing a different twist on the fake-gods concept, this seems a bit early to be doing it with military people. You'd think only the very best would be going off-planet at this point, but one snaps when the program has only been around several months? It would also be more believable if it was in a later season. At this point the Earthlings haven't performed any particularly amazing feats off-world, or had any real victories against the Goa'uld. In a later season it would be easier to understand somebody getting too big a head about their accomplishments and capabilities.
It also doesn't help when the nut in question is the dad from Boy Meets World.

Ahh, Richard Dean Anderson gets to play not-quite-O'Neill for... the first or second time depending on whether you go by air date or the DVD order. Here he plays OldNeill, and gets an extremely rickety voice. It irks me that the rest of the team put up so little resistance when a clearly abnormal O'Neill was being led away to where he ended up getting his aging STD. Also the first-ish appearance of Dr. Fraiser! The explanation at the end that Jack's aging was only a false appearance as opposed to the real aging of the others... yeah, seems a totally fakey way to get him back to normal for next week.

Is this the first time they blow an opportunity to have an advanced piece of equipment? I believe so. Sure, leaving Teal'c in there would be a Bad Thing, but they couldn't have investigated a bit more to try and find a better way out? To put a non-stupid possible spin on it, maybe Jack realized the higher-ups on Earth would rather leave Teal'c in there if presented the choice, so he took that choice away... leaving it to Daniel to so Daniel couldn't be pissed at him about it.
